MORE ABOUT THE HISTORY PROJECT

Recognizing the lack of historical documentation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender peoples and activities in those official college historical records, the Colorado College LGBT Oral History Project seeks to initiate a concerted and directed effort to collect, preserve, and make visible the personal narratives of non-heterosexual students, faculty and staff from this institution’s past and present. In entering into conversation with these ‘queer voices’ of the college’s past we hope to contribute to the ongoing personal and societal negotiations surrounding sexuality and identity. The project will make these pasts visible and accessible to the public via an online digital archive. It is hoped that this work will establish a framework to sustain an interest in oral history and ensure that queer voices are recognized at Colorado College in the future.
